New England wool grower Mr Charlie McCowen has claimed November 27 2008 as one of the most auspicious days for New England sheep producers since the introduction of superphosphate to the region more than 80 years ago. Mr McCowen has developed the NDA feed management system that utilises all natural products and results in almost all traditional drenching practices being eliminated. The system incorporates three natural feed products, molasses, salt and DE being strategically fed to livestock under normal paddock conditions in specified quantities. All three products are readily available to sheep producers.
Mr McCowen estimates that the new system costs between 5-10 cents per month per DSE of direct product inputs, at the same time labour overheads usually associated with drenching are virtually eliminated, "our preliminary results lead us to conclude that we will never drench again" Mr McCowen said. This is a gigantic boost to New England sheep producers profitability and will result in a huge boost to efficiency levels as well. "What's more these natural products will mean great benefits for the environment and eliminate potential chemical residue issues in many sheep products as well".
